We saw this place one day while we were window shopping at the Wharf and thought it looked interesting. The feel is very comfy and artistic, the colors and lighting are very welcoming. We were only stopping in for a snack and I had never had gelato before so I was itching to try it. It was delicious! They had so many flavors I had trouble choosing! I was really tempted by some of the more exciting flavors like apple pie, but I ended up wimping out and chose salted caramel. It was still awesome though! They have a lot of other menu options like lunch foods and tons of coffee drinks. The service was pretty quick, and everyone seemed really nice. We will definitely venture back here on our next visit.

I'd highly recommend the sandwiches and gelato here. The pear salad is also pretty amazing. There are also some quality homemade baked goods.

"Breakfast was good with sandwiches and egg scrambles with choice of meats. Lots of choices in coffees and pastries. Nice assortment of lunch and dinner sandwiches as well as a super choice of Gellatos. Very dog friendly with water bowls, doggie treats and a nice porch for your pooch.

The first time I visited Orange Beach, someone mentioned how good the breakfast was. I never got the chance to try it, this last time we returned I went three times within two days. The paninis are beyond phenomenal, and rarely do I encounter a restaurant that has coffee from Guatemala. The art on the walls is very unique too, if only they had more of these!

Southern Grind is located in the Wharf complex, an upscale shopping area in Orange Beach. This is a cute beach coffee house, decorated tastefully, with a lot of things to look at. The business was rather busy the whole time we were there, it was a saturday. It wasn't too busy though that we couldn't find seats and do some reading while enjoying our coffee and ice cream. The reason why I'm only give three stars is because the honey latte that I got was too sweet, and I wished that they had complimentary water at their bar. Also, my ice cream was also just okay, I've had better gelato. The servers were also nice, but it took a few minutes to get their attention as they were very talkative and gossipy amongst themselves as well as some friends who had come in to the store. They seemed to be "hanging out" more than paying attention to the customers.

We here early afternoon for cold drinks and we happy, cashier was helpful in choosing drinks for us. We will be going back for coffee, fun little gifts in the store as well. Nice place to bring your dogs.. they have dog cookies/biscuits on the house. It's always nice to see places cater to your 4 legged family.

We are so glad we came across this place! We were in search of a local coffee shop while visiting Orange Beach and came across this location. The pumpkin pie latte is awesome and their menu has a ton of great options. We'll be returning...tomorrow.

I've only had gelato here, but it was pretty good. I had raspberry and chocolate, and it worked to fix my sweet tooth before heading into the concert we were there to see. The line was ridiculously long, but they had a quick turnover rate. Clean bathrooms, too!

First time - good selection of coffees and breakfast items. All were pleasing. Belgian waffle was fluffy and warm, the oatmeal was tasty but a bit runny, without much additions (blueberries would be nice), the grits were also pretty good. Good selection of gelato as well. Overall the food is a little overpriced, and the selection of souvenirs, some of which are pretty cute, are WAY overpriced. Clean bathroom (though only one so there was a bit of a line), and good customer service - friendly staff. Would recommend for a quick bite especially for breakfast or dessert.

    To say the least, my stay at The Southern Grind Coffee House was on point! The service was spectacular, the sweets were delicious, and the environment was very welcoming with a warm tone. I would highly recommend them! They make me come back. {And their shirts are very cute!}

Cute coffe shop, frozen mocha was very good. Service, however left me wanting..young woman behind counter really did not want to be there, and 4 people got thier drinks and snacks before we did and they came in after us. They all seemed put out we were there. Perhaps after a summer of tourists, they have had the nice sucked out of them, but then the owners need to take note their staff need some "encouragement" to give great customer service.

The Southern Grind Coffee House is a cute little coffee shop and café at The Wharf in Orange, Beach Alabama. The atmosphere is very beach chic with tons of Southern charm. A variety of specialty coffees and teas as well breakfast items, soups, salads, sandwiches, pastries and gelato is served in the café. Charming décor, artwork, and unique gifts for purchase fill every nook and cranny of The Southern Grind. I thought the gelato was a tad expensive at $2 per scoop, but I still think this spot is a great addition in Orange Beach.

Yummy! The paninis were really good. I had the triple cheese and my husband had the grilled chicken. My brother in law had a salad that looked really delicious. The place has a good atmosphere and a friendly staff. For dessert there were several decadent options, but we went for the gelato. Try the blood orange flavor! This place was a good find that we will remember next time we come to the beach.

The Southern Grind Coffee House is located in the commercial section of The Wharf, an Orange Beach resort that could be plopped anywhere on the panhandle of Florida. SETTING: Probably the best thing this place has going for it-- this place has a cool vibe, with a interior that is a little bit logdy and a little bit coastal at the same time--but in a very intentional way. The chalkboard menu gives some local character, while the home decor items--trays, nativity scenes (it was Christmas), birds made from wooden sticks--on display for sale give the place an arts and craftsy feel (they are pretty overpriced, but you can still enjoy the sight). Lots of tables inside, and some outside invite people to sit and enjoy a sandwich or cup of coffee while reading a book or doing some work. They even have some nice upholstered chairs in the front gathered around a giant flatscreen TV (ugh, practically ruins the place) playing what else but college football (double ugh). They couldn't let you forget that we are indeed in Alabama! In one corner they have more gift shoppy souvenirs for sale, like T-shirts (bravo on going with Comfort Colors over Beefy T), stationary, etc). SERVICE: The employees seemed pretty friendly. The guy who got our gelato for us was happy to give us a couple samples. Although, he did seem a little hover-y. Yes, incredible he was able to do that from behind the counter, but I felt a little pressured to order something. Whatever, beats being rude. FOOD: I got gelato and a coffee. The smallest gelato size was a "2 scoops" for $3.50. I'm not complaining about the price for the portion size. 2 scoops was literally 2 scoops. It was weird though that they put it in a cup that could have held at least twice as much gelato. I mean they have those cups on display with the pricing making you think that you are going to be getting that much gelato and then you only get half. I mean I realize gelato comes in small portions--that much gelato at Grom costs like $6, but at least you see the cup and know exactly how much you are going to get. As for the taste, it wasn't the best I'd ever had--it lacked the creaminess that I'm used to in other gelatos. The coffee was kind of meh as well. I didn't have any of the hot food, so I can't really judge there--but the menu also had a nice selection of sandwiches and some tempting salads. Perhaps if I pass by again, I might try a meal, but I probably wouldn't get the gelato again.

Came back this time for breakfast and ordered the Caramel Macchiato again, but with the Breakfast Burger. All I have to add is...again dead on with wonderful food!

Friendly service. Had the BBQ chicken panini and pasta salad. BBQ chicken panini was really good. Pasta salad was very general. Just pasta and some vinaigrette. Got an espresso in a 12 oz Togo coffee cup though I was dining in. Espresso was good though.

We have only ordered the gourmet coffee drinks. We come after dinner so we are always too full to have dessert. We love the ambiance and smell of this place. They have a cute little gift shop to shop around while waiting for your order. One day we will be back for dessert! !

The Southern Grind is an adorable little coffee / sandwich shop. The coffee is definitely good but not outstanding. The real star here though is their gelato. this is the real deal children so you're not going to be able to eat as much as you think. Also the staff is fantastic, Very helpful, very kind! The decor is seaside and very well done and comfortable! Also nearly all of the decor is for sale so just ask! Overall the coffee is 4 stars but everything else pushes it to a 5!

The Southern Grind Coffee house is adorable, and the food is great too. We enjoyed gelato in the evening, and breakfast in the morning. Both were delicious, and not terribly over priced. Breakfast features selections from an omelet, to fruit and oatmeal. All of which were well prepared. Gelato was excellent, and very fairly priced. I would recommend the Southern Grind Coffee House to anyone.

update: since posting this review I have been contacted by the owner anonymously via yelp, advising me to take my business to starbucks at target in gulf shores. maybe this explains the employee turnover rate? business owners: LISTEN to your customers. they are always right. This establishments employee turnover is very excessive and it reflects in their product. The coffee is inconsistent and never the same taste or strength. The service is lacking and the food as well. The whole store is a gimmick to attract tourists with the upscale condo art and knick knacks they have for sale. This coffee shop does not offer a laid back, relaxed environment that you would expect from a coffee shop in any city. The second star is for the fact that they bring something to the Wharf that it was lacking.

Extremely adorable place! I stopped a coffee. I ordered a Sugar Free Vanilla Soy Machiatto, and an Iced Soy Sugar Free White Mocha both were a venti sized and both were less than 3/4's full. The coffee did taste good however, for the same price as Starbucks and our drinks not being full is the reason for the 3 stars.

This is my wife's fave coffee house, very cute and comfortable. It has much more than coffee, and is a beautiful shop featuring beachy home decor. It has relaxing overstuffed chairs, flatscreen tv, breakfast n lunch offerings as well as gelato. Also outdoor seating, a good place to hang while your wife is browsing. It's not your funky java joint if you're looking for a bracing cup of joe, but definitely worth a visit.

Very cute, clean and incredibly good cafe. Absolutely In love with it. On a work trip here and Alabama for a week and finally found a decent place to go to! Love it! Otherwise, nothing to do around here!

The south (from my experience) doesn't have a lot of options for coffee shops outside of a Starbucks. Great find! Had a soy latte that was very very good. Staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was quaintly Floridian :) Would have given 5 but they don't allow customers to use the restroom on site which is a little odd/tacky (I know small thing to downgrade for but it just seems very odd!)

Popped in for a quick lunch before my 130 spa appt at fusion (across the street). Everything came out super fast! I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. And there were many people getting service. I ordered the buffalo chicken panini with pasta salad and chips. Overall, it was good. I do suspect that the chicken was microwaved before put on the sandwich. It wasn't a great piece of chicken either. The breast seemed to be one from a pre-Cooked frozen Pack, right down to the fake grill marks. The flavor of the other parts of the sandwich were good. I loved the pasta salad! It was great tasting in a nice oil dressing mixture. If I go back, I want to try the gelato. It looks wonderful! They advertise that they have 28 flavors of gelato. I didn't count the flavors but I don't think I could decide on a flavor to try!!!

Great quick stop for drinks and snack. I had a really good latte w caramel & vanilla, my son downed most of a berry smoothie but towards the end decided it a bit watery. Kid in our party liked the pretzel burger. We split a chicken pesto panini which was ok for a quick snack ( think Starbucks boxed meal quality) but not something I would return for. Would definitely come back for drinks, snack, dessert or for a try at breakfast. Cinnamon buns, frosted cookies & treats looked good. Ambience is restoration hardware meets beach. There is a couch w a big tv and plenty of other seating options.

On an island that doesn't have much by way of coffee shops, this one definitely takes the cake. Service is fast and friendly, atmosphere is casual and relaxing. They have great lattes, great breakfast or lunch options (for cheap!), and let me sample their butterfinger gelato! Yum! I stared at their bakery display for a long time, too, before finally being dragged away. Those brownies! Y'all. If you want a place to enjoy coffee while waiting for the rest of your travel party to wake up in the morning, this is it.

The food was better than a drive-thru but the service was slow. And, I hate to say it, but they also were not friendly. I had some friends in from out of town and it is a matter of pride that I can showcase how pleasant people are in "LA". We waited 25 minutes for two egg sandwiches and while watching three wait staff never saw a single smile. The atmosphere is pretty darn neat though! Our "fresh seasonal fruit" was frozen. By noon on the kitchen counter is was edible. This was only after one visit, so bear that in mind. For me, I will not be returning.

Oh my word, I have died and gone to heaven!!! I have lived in Northwest Florida for four years now, and it is really difficult to find a great coffee shop here--one that has great ambiance, good snacks/food, and where you feel like you can stay and work without feeling rushed or too many distractions. This place definitely fits the bill, AND it has a 99!!!! health department rating, which can be difficult to find around here (I hate to admit that, but it is true). It has a chic variety of beach decor that is calming and beautiful. I wanted to take more pictures, but I didn't want to violate people's privacy by putting their faces on the web. My mouth dropped the moment I walked in because there aren't very many coffee shops as cute as this on the "Flora-Bama" coast. I haven't tried the coffee yet, so I can't comment on that, but I just tried my pizza lunch, and it is very yummy! The Internet connection is fast, and there is ample seating for a coffee shop, both indoors and outside. I rarely write reviews unless something is really good (or really bad), but I can tell you that I will be driving to Orange Beach from Pensacola often to come back to this place. I highly recommend it!

Salted caramel was excellent, the service however was awful. Cashier was rude, no greeting even after I greeted her and mumbled when I asked questions as if I was bothering her.

Wonderful little place. Lunch was delicious with perfect portion sizes. Our party of four all enjoyed our dishes. The cucumber salad is to die for, so simple yet refreshing. We topped it off with some delicious gelato. Can't go wrong there.
